From prompt to muscle memory
midimemo runs short sessions on the keys: see a prompt, play the shape, check what landed, and rate it so spaced repetition brings hard cards back before they slip. How midimemo works: prompt → play → reveal → rate, SM-2 spaced repetition, on-screen piano and MIDI, and your daily practice plan.
The practice loop
midimemo runs short sessions on the keys: see a prompt, play the shape, check what landed, and rate it so spaced repetition brings hard cards back before they slip.
Scroll the loop: see the prompt, play the shape, check what landed, then rate it — so the shapes you need when you compose come back before the next session.
See what’s asked: The card names the scale, chord, or interval and which hand — so you commit to a shape before your fingers leave home position.
Land it under your fingers: Answer on MIDI, computer keys, or the on-screen piano. The card only clears when every note of the shape is down — recognising the name does not count.
Check the shape: Notes and highlighted keys appear against the target so you can compare the voicing you played with the one the path expects.
Lock it in: Rate how secure it felt. Hard cards return sooner; easy ones wait longer — so the next session rebuilds the weak spots first.
Spaced repetition and ratings
After you play a shape, you rate how it felt: again, hard, good, or easy.
midimemo schedules the next review with an SM-2–style algorithm. Cards move through new, learning, review, and relearning states. Again resets progress and brings the shape back soon; hard keeps it closer; good and easy push the interval out so easy shapes wait longer.
That way hard shapes return before they leave your hands, and you spend session time where it matters.
On-screen piano and MIDI
Every session can use the on-screen piano or your computer keyboard — no hardware required.
Plug in a USB-MIDI piano or controller on Chrome, Edge, or Firefox (including Chrome on Android), and midimemo listens to the notes you play. Safari on iPhone and iPad does not support Web MIDI; use on-screen or computer keys there.
Daily practice plan and progress
During onboarding you pick practice days and a commitment tier — from reviews only, through light and standard, up to intensive. Each tier sets a soft daily engagement target (about 15 to 60 minutes) and how many new cards the scheduler may introduce.
Your home screen shows the practice plan and streak so short daily sessions compound into fluency along the curriculum path — not endless song tutorials.
