FAQ for midimemo: MIDI keyboards, browser support, free vs Pro, spaced repetition, topics covered, and how it differs from Anki or Line 6 MIDI Memo.
What is midimemo?
midimemo is a browser-based music theory trainer for producers. Spaced-repetition flashcards, an on-screen piano, and MIDI keyboard input turn intervals, scales, chords, and keys into muscle memory — so you can compose at the keys and in your DAW without hunting.
Do I need a MIDI keyboard?
No. You can practice with the on-screen piano or your computer keyboard. A USB-MIDI piano or controller is optional — when you plug one in on a supported browser, midimemo listens to the notes you play.
Which browsers support MIDI input?
Web MIDI works in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox (108+), including Chrome on Android. Use HTTPS or localhost. Safari on iPhone and iPad does not support Web MIDI — on those devices, use the on-screen or computer keys instead.
Is midimemo free?
Yes — midimemo has a free plan so you can start practicing without paying. Optional Pro plans (monthly, annual, or lifetime) unlock more of the fluency path when you want the full curriculum.
How does spaced repetition work in midimemo?
You play a prompt on the keys, then rate how it felt (again, hard, good, or easy). midimemo schedules that shape with an SM-2–style spaced-repetition system so hard cards return before they slip, and easier ones wait longer.
What music theory topics does it cover?
The fluency path moves from finding any note through triads, scales and keys, song loops, mix-ready chord colour, and interval fluency. Topics include: Find any note; Triads & colour; Scales & keys; Song loops; Mix-ready chords; Intervals & fluency.
How is midimemo different from Anki or piano-lesson apps?
Anki is general flashcards — midimemo is built for producers at the keyboard: you answer by playing, with on-screen piano or MIDI feedback, then rate the shape. Unlike song-tutorial or tip-video apps, midimemo stays on a sequential theory path (intervals, scales, chords, loops) until the shapes live under your fingers when you compose — not song detours.
Is midimemo the same as the Line 6 “MIDI Memo” app?
No. midimemo is an unrelated browser-based music theory trainer. The older Line 6 “MIDI Memo” name referred to a separate iOS MIDI recording app and is not this product.
Does midimemo record or judge my compositions?
midimemo builds vocabulary through drills. Optional writing at the keyboard or in a DAW stays yours — midimemo does not record or judge your compositions.
